Product Description

Make the most of your time with The Rough Guide to Sicily. Written by authors with over twenty years’ experience in travelling around Sicily, the book covers every region and offshore island. The full-colour section introduces Sicily’s highlights, from the slopes of Mount Etna to alfresco dining in Palermo. With informed accounts and unparralled coverage, clue-up on all the top sights from Greek temples to the celebrity-filled Aeolian islands, gorge-walking to volcano-climbing, market shopping to lazing in boutique hotels. The guide takes a detailed look at Sicily’s history, literature and cultural life with expert background on everything from Baroque architecture to the history of the Mafia. From Palermo and Catania to the get-away-from-it-all islands of Pantelleria and Lampedusa, rely on authoritative reviews of hotels, restaurants, shops and transportation and lively tips on hundreds of bars and clubs. Whether you’re on a beach holiday, fly-drive tour or island-hopping trip, explore every corner of Sicily with the clearest maps of any guide.

5 out of 5 stars Indispensable.   June 1, 2009

This book helped me in practically every way. I went from Palermo to Milazzo to Alicudi to Messina to Taormina to Catania. And the book had ample information for every situation I found myself in. It was most helpful to me when I was traveling. The information on how to physically get from place to place (trains, buses, ferries, taxis) is what I used the most. Get a map from the local tourist office; the book tells you where they all are. Also, I saw a ton of people with the same book! Must be a popular guide.

Of course, I learned more about Sicily by seeing and doing than by reading, but this book is a great reference to have. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars A GREAT investment for your Sicily trip   November 23, 2009

This is the best book that I have bought for my Sicily trip. Covers all the little details like where exactly to park in Taormina (and how much will this cost?)or Trapani, and shows you where on the map. Covers where the restaurants are in smaller towns that you might visit that other books just ignor. Unlike the Blue Guide, it is arranged in a logical fashion to find the info that you need. It has maps with the exact location of sights that are supposed to be a must see, but where are they exactly? like the Giudecca palace in Trapani

To fill in the question I had about a pending trip to Sicily. I get alot of information online, then finalize the trip with a Rough Guide.
